Starstruck!!

So late Monday night I was on the radio, doing my professional foreigner bit and talking about why London is so much cooler than Paris. While this is easier than trying to have an opinion about CCTV cameras, it was actually trickier than you might think, because for once everyone seemed to be in agreement. French people were actually ringing in to say they thought it was true. This was very unnerving and naturally set off a little radio phone-in in my own head, along the lines of 'If London's so cool, whaddya doing here?' which was very distracting, and caused me to completely fluff my last two comments. Most unsatisfactory. I think I told people to visit Shoreditch. A few more minutes and I'd have been recommending heading off to the lock-in at "The Joiners Arms" (saved by the bell!) But I digress. The evening was saved by the charming (and HOT!) presenter (see pic), the lovely production team (also HOT!) and my fellow guest, a delightful French lady who is also a radio pro. I was even a teensy bit starstruck - I know you all think of Rhino75 as a hardened old *showbiz* ham, but I'm usually the one asking the questions - this was the first time I've been interviewed by someone I'm more used to watching on telly myself. At least I didn't ask for anyone's autograph. No, honestly, it was great fun, but I was (pleasantly) surprised that everyone thought London was so great. Oooh, and even managed to snaffle a top restaurant tip for my forthcoming London-Brighton trip. One of the people who phoned in was a French chef called Morgan Meunier, who has a restaurant in Islington, which I am definitely planning to try out. Bon appetit to me!

Thank you Babs dear. And congratulations - You're the first to spot my star quality!! :) OMG Rob, I hadn't actually thought of it like that but you're right. Like yourself, I am a federator!! Who knew?? I should do another program about the new labor contract. I feel like Evita (Madonna version, natch). Excuse me while I step out onto my balcony.

Don't cry for me... I can hear you singing, rhino. Run with the wind Evita!!
But wear some comfortable shoes, bunions are a bitch!

rhino, I want to go to that restaurant in Paris, Morgan M's, it looks divine, simply divine.

Doesn't it, Babs? But be careful!! Although the chef is French, the restaurant is in London, England. That's why I have to wait until my next trip to try it.

I can't believe you get paid for saying nasty things about Paris and compare it with... London (of all places). I mean New York city, ok. But London... ? Well thank god our chefs have migrated there to teach you a little bit about culture. There's hope;-) (meow)

(ok, I'm kidding Rhino, alright, so don't start monter sur tes grands chevaux and don't send me one of your nasty answers about the fact that you pay tax in this country and that if it weren't for EuroDisney nobody would visit Paris blah blah...). We all know that London is much better than Paris, ok, ok, London, its architecture, its food, its history, its boys etc...

hrr hrak

(sorry I just choked on my dry fish and chips)

Now who's the famous interviewer?

And then you talk about ME getting on my high horse, Micke :) But I don't need them to pay me, hon, I do it for free. And I do say that I was surprised by the fact that there was only one negative comment and that was about the high cost of living. As for the presenter, click on the pic. Good to have you back.

Of course you are a star but I wonder what your French is like? Is it perfect and unaccented like blog-frog's English?

I feel like I should answer this one. Rhino's French is impeccable, very idiomatic and totally fluent. The weird thing is that (like me in English) he occasionally utters these Swedish long /i:/ sounds in French. Don't know where it comes from...
Must be your extensive oral practice with the Swedes, Rhino...
Ooops, have I just revealed something?

rhino75 said...

Exactly, all those years of singing "Så glad som dina ögon," you mean? But you're too kind, sir...;)

Oh My, the plot thickens. This is better than Agatha Christy on a hot steamy night!
