If that's lazy, then I've had a decidedly barely alive weekend! I had to perform alot.
You on the other hand...
"party, cocktails, open bar, cake-making, egg'n bacon muffins, dvds, sushi, sofa, warm, pub, ANOTHER quiz, coffee, lovely, lazy, weekend", and all this during the WINTER!
hehe, it sounds less lazy than it was, believe me Rob, as 90% of it was conducted from the sofa - but have just realised I forgot to add in our "jam session" - rhino75 on guitar, noodle on keboards - cats could be heard crying for miles around!! Where were you performing?
That sounds like a marvellous weekend! I could do with a weekend like that for a change.
I was out with friends on Friday - usual round of bars then club. Haircut on Saturday. Same round of bars and club on Saturday night with different friends. I was invited out to lunch on Sunday but turned it down. At 9 that evening I got messages by the friend to say he was still out - thank God I didn't go as I'd have felt wrecked today.
hehe! For the pics, I normally start with an html table and then take it from there, adjusting the sizes or the alignment etc. Flickr makes it easy by offering pics in a variety of sizes. My non-Flickrd pics get resized in Photoshop. Mmmm, sounds more fiddly than it really is - it's pretty basic if I can do it!
oh another html lesson, I'm learning so much! Believe him folks, he probably didn't move at all from the sofa, Kitty probably did more motion in one hour than Rhino in 2 days. Rhino, did you like Un Amour à Taire? Isn't that the most ridiculous and painful (as in embarassing) movie in the whole world? Gotta borrow your Will & Grace DVDs if i may though. Which season was that?
Noooooooo Micke!! I love "Un Amour à Taire" - I can't believe you don't like it! True, it starts off a little cheesily but I think that's intentional so that when things "turn sour" it's even more shocking. And it's set in my neighbourhood - ok, my neighbourhood and Dachau, but still. And, apart from the superb "Bent", I don't know of many other films dealing with the treatment meted out to homosexuals during WWII. I've seen it before, but sat there just as enthralled this time around. Are you not impressed by the rather lovely looking pain d'épices? And, sadly, they're not my Will & Grace DVDs, they're on loan from a friend who's gone off on holiday with my "Desperate Housewives" - but it's season 5. Excellent.
Your pain d'épices does look lovely. Can't wait to be invited to get to taste it. I don't understand how you can like that film... really... It is indeed one of the few movies that deal with the subject so even though the topic is interesting, I think the actors are crap, I'm sure you like this movie just for Blondie (can't remember his name now, you know, the main actor). The scene where Blondie breaks stones in the camp and screams out loud: "I love to sleep with men" really took the cake!
::sigh:: The whole point about that scene is that it's the first time Jérémie Renier (aka Blondie) stands up and declares himself as gay, his first moment of "gay pride" in the face of oppression, even though this is the gesture that ultimately seals his fate. But then it sounds from your blog that you didn't much like "Brokeback Mountain" either. So we must agree to disagree. (Note to self: don't go round to Micke's for DVD night!) I shall, of course, save you some pain d'épices. Strangely, there's quite a lot left... hmmm...
Well, what was disturbing was: why did the whole scene look like clean version of a German soft-porn movie? I mean whatever happens, no matter how much he works, sweats and starves in the concentration camps, he always keeps great hair, rosy cheeks and transparent sexy outfit. It's not Sophie's Choice or the Holocaust really... Well, I guess it's just because it was made for TV, wasn't it? and they didn't really have the budget to shoot outside with real actors;-) But don't say you don't want to watch DVDs with me. I'm great company for DVD watching. I'm great audience! I can basically watch anything as long as you give me some of that pain d'épices or whatever to munch on!
That's SO not TRUE. Have you seen the film? He actually spends most of the second part, including that episode, looking rough as hell with a shaved head and a huge mess round his eye, following the torture. He certainly doesn't look pretty. It's not "Sophie's Choice" that's true, but, to be honest, I think it stands up to Holocaust (also made for TV si je ne me trompe pas) pretty well.
There must be a subtitled version. I see from this link that the English title is "A Love to Hide" but am not sure how widely available it is in the US...
:0S Don't, I'm already feeling "blog-guilt"! This week seems to have zoomed past. I promise to try and find inspiration over the next couple of days. Wishing you an excellent weekend too, Nomad.

How can I watch this movie then?
English subtitles?

Thanks Rhino, I'll look for it!
Not only was your weekend lazy, it seems that your blogging week has been even lazier!! Crank up the output, man! :-)
But, whether you do or don't, hope you have a good weekend.
