Goodnight Vienna

icesculptklimtbearglassmountainairship
What better way to spend a Tuesday evening than sipping champers, eating finger food and getting an eyeful of Viennese art? So when a friend asked me to be her "+1" for an evening of bubbles and culture at the Grand Palais, I jumped at the chance. The main lure was, of course, a guided tour of the "Klimt, Schiele, Moser, Kokoshka: Vienna 1900" exhibition - which more than lived up to all the wonderful things I'd heard about it, champagne having a similar effect on Rhino75's artistic sensibilities to madeleines on Proust's memory. Of course I was already familiar with Klimt and Schiele's work, but had never come across Moser before, and frankly, I liked what I saw ;). If I had to pick one of the four, it would still have to be Klimt for his sheer fabulousness, but Moser comes a close second - I really want to see some of his furniture designs now. And, with a rather delicious duckling, mango and fig salad, and marshmallows with chocolate fondue thrown in, I had a wonderful time!!

Klimt is fabulous indeed too bad some of his paintings have become such commercialized motives though. Don't know Kokoshka. I want to go too and get free champagne and see the verrière. I always seem to miss it when they open it...

Klimt has been a great favourite of mine since discovering him in my teens. I had a large poster of that Klimt pic of Salome on my wall thoughout varsity days. It took a great wrench to throw it out when it eventually fell to pieces.

Ah, Nomad, thinking about that Salome poster brings back some memories for me too. I'd never seen any landscapes by him until yesterday evening, though, and they were equally beautiful. Micke, it's not over yet, I think it's on until the 23rd, so get yourself down there! Funnily enough, I ran into a friend of yours and Favourite Mr. B's at last night's bash!!

Well, don't think I'll be able to make it as I am constantly on the road nowadays (writing from Strasbourg now). So was Amanda Lear there? Really?
