Rhino à la mode

For yes, it is indeed that time of year again. The Paris ready-to-wear shows. How fabulous. And guess what? Thin is IN. Who'd have guessed? Not just common-or-garden slim, mind you, but really, really, really thin. So thin you fall over. Hopefully. Now, of course, the important thing to remember with fashion is that you're always looking ahead. Ah yes, it's SO not about what's happening NOW, it's about what is going to be a sizzling (my italics) look for spring/summer 2007. And, call me Nostradamus, but I predict thin will be "in" BIG time. And black. Very similar to last year. BUT - wait for it - with a belt. That's right, belted thin. That's the twist. Possibly with a bag. Or not. Express yourself, have a little fun with it. Now, dear reader, being really, really thin is a bit beyond Rhino75's means. Big bones and all. But don't imagine for a second that I'm not pulling my weight this fashion week. I have forsworn solid food for the duration of the shows, am wearing sunglasses indoors and drinking champagne for breakfast before wobbling all over the place as I do "the walk" all the way to work. I know I make it look easy but it's actually very, VERY hard work. Just look at the pic on the right. Elizabeth Hurley, my own private fashion muse, is quite obviously panicking about her lack of belt. Even she can't always get it right, you see. We'll both be glad when it's over.

I wish Thin wasn't "IN" all the damn time!

More to the point, judging by the pictures from the Burberry Milan show, So Thin You're About To Expire seems to be in. I should imagine that soon those girls will have to be stretchered down the catwalk in oxygen tents (unless there are any calories in oxygen, that is).

I've always like thin but skeletal ain't nice!

But, it is diffult getting accustomed to not being thin anymore....I must re-adjust my mindset or get thin again

well, I'm all for fashion promoting unhealthy body types - too few young people have any real goals these days. No, NO, I didn't mean it - get your hand back in the biscuit barrel. I wonder if Hedi Slimane does trousers with an elasticated waist...

I have to say, being one of the skinnies, that flats are better than stilettos for balance when one is passing out, but only marginally. Hence, always look for the trend of flats when the models get ultra-skinny. But, let's not fuck around here. The catwalk is made by underskilled immigrants who couldn't make a sturdy catwalk if their immigration papers depended on it. If the models are skinny, it's better for their safety.
