As you've probably realised by now, dear reader, nothing cheers rhino75 up quite as much as an exhibition. After a month of "art cold turkey" I was positively chomping at the bit when Mrs. LOG suggested we pop along to
Belleville and check out the open day being held by local artists there. This four-day event was organised by the
Belleville Artists' Workshop Association. It's all a bit grungy and more urban than a lot of things we get to go to - and all the better for it. For example, at the workshops of the
Il est 5 heures collective, there was no champagne BUT there were homemade cakes and t-shirts screenprinted while-u-wait - how cool is that? And as you can see from the pics, there was tons of interesting art. One of the highlights for me was the film "
Waterproof", a ballet performed mostly underwater. Fantastic images, and choreographer Daniel Larrieu told us they're planning to recreate it this year - 20 years after the original film - in a swimming pool at St. Ouen, using the same cast. I won't be auditioning though, as it looked rather hard work and I don't think my ability to make a float out of a pair of pyjama bottoms will come in very handy. Ah well...

Oh, I really MUST do my Chanel post! *said in a teasing manner* :-)
i want to go too! is it too late?
I'm so pleased you are out and about again, doing what you really love!
I love that chickendance picture! I want it.
By the way, is this Belleville place the same place where Triplets of Belleville or whatever the film was called is set?
Outside of cape town there's a place called Bellville which is an independent municipality but which is really just a suburb of Cape Town. It's not particularly salubrioius...in the past it was largely the preserve of the Afrikaans working class.
Thanks Rob, things are finally getting back to normal, though I'm still hobbling a little. That "Chickendance" pic is a still from one of the films we watched - bizarre out of context, but rather interesting when viewed with the rest. Sorry Micke, I think it finished yesterday. I didn't see any publicity for it, the only reason we went was because one of the artists is involved in Mrs. LOG's boulevard Magenta project (which you should definitely check out!). Yup Nomad, that's the place. This Belleville is also a traditionally working class area that is becoming more and more "boho" - I really like the area and it's right next to one of my favourite Parisian parks, Les Buttes-Chaumont.
By the way, if there are any locals reading, here is the link to Mrs. LOG's event. Come early, come often, as the saying goes.
