List freak

I have a confession, dear reader. Rhino75 is a list-freak. So, when I saw that U.S. film critic Jim Emerson had come up with this guide to the 102 movies "everybody ought to have seen in order to have any sort of informed discussion about movies," and "the basic cinematic texts that everyone should know, at minimum, to be somewhat "movie-literate," well, it was almost like Christmas and my birthday combined. I was a bit disappointed by my score of 53 - when I first read it through, I thought it was going to be higher but then I realised that although I'd heard of most of these films, that IS different to actually watching them (sometimes I get confused about things like this). This obviously means that all my discussions about movies to date have been gloriously ill-informed - did it show, I wonder? Anyway, c'mon - 'fess that number.

41.

Initially I was shocked and appalled at myself, but then I actually looked at the films I haven't seen and realised I'd rejected them for being crap. It's not a perfect list. Clearly the perfect list is the one which only consists of the films I've seen (:

My thoughts exactly, Kieran. Am I any less credible for not having seen "The Scarlet Empress" - it was made in 1934, how good can it be if I haven't heard of it by now? I think a new list is called for...

Thanks Babs, it is indeed sciatica but I'm feeling much better after the doc gave me some mind-blowing painkillers and Temazapan. Still can't sit down but I am ... whoops, nearly went a little TMI there :)

64 - I was rather impressed by myself! As for new lists, perhaps I should get my friend moviebuff to devise one. That could be an interesting one to play with.

Yowza!! That IS impressive Nomad. But does that include "The Scarlet Empress", I wonder? (Go on, pander to me..:)) I'm going to look for Moviebuff right now...

I've never heard of the Scarlet Empress but I know lots of Scarlet Temptresses!!

I left a note for moviebuff to compile his list but have not checked to see if he's taken up the challenge.

How long do you guys think that Rhino is going to pretend he hasn't seen that Nomad tagged him?

rhino75 said...

hmm, keep up Micke dear, you can see in the comments on the April 30 post that I acknowledged being tagged yesterday. I want to do it because it's Nomad, but to be honest, I don't really find that kind of thing very interesting - is that blog heresy?

Assemble the tribunal! Rhino has commited Blog-heresy! HA! Joking.

The Blog-i-verse is a collection of rouge states that answer to no man! Live Free or DIE, as the New Hampshire peoples are found of marketing. Or is that the Vermont folks? I don't remember.

So you will do something for me despite not finding it interesting merely because it's me?

What else is there that you'll do just because it's me? I have a few home-grown remedies for sciatica! ;-)

rhino, listen to me. Sciatica, inflamation of the sciatic nerve or injury can take up to a year to heal. Now, it is absolutely imperitive that you do as the Dr. instructs as it is not to be played with and is one of the most painful nerves to heal. First it's your back that really hurts, then it moves to your butt cheek and wraps around your leg.I've had serious nerve damage and two nerves moved. Moist heat and antiinflamatories,i.e. Motrin, ibuprophen and your prescribed pain meds are a must. You have to take it easy to allow it to heal but if you keep irritating it and have an attitude of indifference you will suffer longer. One time in your life, take the time to heal. Words of wisdom from Dr. Babs, who just so happens to care. You can call me many things but you cannot call me incompetent when it comes to medicine! Kisses on your Sciatic!!

Thanks Babs, believe me I AM taking it seriously - it hurts too much to do otherwise!! I went for my X-rays yesterday afternoon and I have another appointment at the doctor's on Tuesday (Monday is another holiday here). It's a very dull thing to have, tho', because the inability to sit down rules out so much social interaction!! Thanks for your concern, and believe me, I'm following the doc's instructions to the letter.
